The Coastal Walkways Cell 5 & 6 project revitalised the Hallett Cove coastline through the construction of new walkways and two 45-metre pedestrian suspension bridges spanning Kurnabinna and Grey Gullies. Designed to enhance accessibility, safety, and visitor experience, the upgraded boardwalk now enables around 30,000 people each year to enjoy the full 8-kilometre coastal trail. One of the project’s key challenges involved constructing bridge footings on steep cliff faces to anchor the suspension bridges. North worked closely with all stakeholders to develop and deliver an innovative, safe, and buildable solution for these highly complex engineering works.
Services Provided
Appointed to provide cost management and constructability advice across multiple options for the Coastal Walkway project the team conducted detailed site investigations, first-principles estimating, and methodology reporting to guide Council’s strategy for delivering Cells 5, 6, and 10.
For the more complex sections—Cells 5 and 6—North led procurement and advisory services, facilitating the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process and contributing to Council reports and critical project documentation.
During delivery, North acted as Superintendent, providing commercial management, contract administration, and on-site direction to ensure works met design intent, governance standards, and Council expectations.
