CopperString 2032 stands as North Queensland’s most significant energy infrastructure investment — a transformative project connecting possibility to power.

Delivered in partnership by Powerlink and the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC), the project prioritises the Eastern Link between Townsville and Hughenden, creating a vital connection between the mineral-rich Mount Isa–Cloncurry region and the east coast grid.

Once complete, CopperString 2032 will deliver reliable, affordable, and cleaner electricity to regional industries and communities — unlocking the full potential of large-scale renewable generation across North Queensland.

With an estimated capital investment of over $10 billion, the project is set to generate around 800 construction jobs and 400 ongoing operational roles, fuelling long-term growth and prosperity. It will also open the door to more than $500 billion in new mining, processing, and renewable energy opportunities — powering not just the grid, but a sustainable future for generations to come.
